The 912's Variomax gas-operated system can be adjusted, allowing shooters to fine tune to their individual tastes. The 912 is a lightweight, fast-cycling semi-auto shotgun produced by well-respected Itallian manufacturer, Franchi. My problem is the owners manual is terrible, and thats probably being too nice. Just picked up a NIB 912 for a steal and it will serve as my backup gun to my SX2 this season including a trip to canada. So while this remains a SPAS-12 diagram and list, it has been augmented with information from the later manuals. If there's something I'm missing, someone please tell us what it is.I found that the original drawing from Franchi for the SPAS-12 was incomplete, and that a few more parts and details relevant to the SPAS-12 were in the LAW-12 manual. It's surely not an efficient method like the Browning Gold shotguns do. The only way I've been able to do it is to pull back the bolt to remove the existing shell and hold the bolt back (it doesn't lock back with shells in the mag) and slide a shell in around the shell carrier and let the bolt go to close. Pushing the release button only pre-loads a shell from the mag, it doesn't block it. What I haven't figured out is an easy way to change the shell in the chamber and block the shells in the magazine. Then load 1-2 shells in the mag, push the little release button to load a round in the chamber and then finish loading the magazine. You can also load leaving the bolt closed if you've fired the trigger. If you load a shell in the chamber and the magazine and then push the release button the front of the trigger guard, you will jam an extra shell below or in front of the bolt. Do NOT use the release button on the front of the trigger guard. With the gun unloaded (mag empty), open the bolt, drop a round in the chamber and hit the round button on the side to close the bolt. (I could be wrong if someone can correct me): I like the easy unload feature using the "bolt closer" at the front of the trigger guard, but the sequencing can be confusing. I played with it this afternoon and I agree it's a bit screwy.
